PONCE de LEON HOTEL / FLAGLER COLLEGE #1

Went home to St. Augustine this past week to visit Mom, friends and my Alma mater.  Henry M. Flagler started construction on the Ponce de Leon Hotel in 1885, completing it in 1888.

The building is designed in the Spanish Renaissance style and was first to use poured concrete construction for a commercial building.

This is a 1906 post card of the Ponce de Leon Hotel,
showing the Courtyard of the Ponce.

The front entrance to the Ponce de Leon Hotel,
now Flagler College.
In 1968, the Flagler System converted the hotel to a college and established Flagler College, a private four-year liberal arts college located in St. Augustine, Florida. I graduated in the Class of 1980.
