I've had a good time perusing your blog and meeting your kin. I love genealogy also and have one started on Ancestry.com. Your posts on Augie tugged at my heart strings since our 14 year old Sparky passed away last Sunday - and I'm still acting like "there's something wrong with me". Of course, it's just because I'm trying to bury the pain instead of expressing it. http://lessandragr.wordpress.com/2013/02/25/in-memoriam-sparkyripple-1999-2013/ . I'm sorry you've lost one of your Mom's dearest friends -who was probably like family to you. Your Mom has that "sweet Georgia peach" look.
